So This Is Me

Greetings,
My name is Christa and this is my blog Reverie, together we will learn about topics pertaining to Environmental Science which is a course I am currently taking this Fall. Currently I am a Biology major attempting to determine whether I want to go towards a medical route or something else entirely. I've recently started to listen to podcasts which have sparked a great interest in Astronomy, Environmental Science, Biology, and Physics all of which are making my current decision on what to do a bit complicated. This past July I took a trip a bit North to June Lake, which is a place that is very close to home for me. When you go there it's like another world, the beauty of just nature is encompassing and at night you can see the Milky Way which just fuels you with a passion for this amazing planet and galaxy that we inhabit.

I am a part-time student at RCC, splitting my time between working and trying to finish taking classes to transfer to a University. I have 2 sisters as seen in the picture above, and we've lived in Southern California our whole lives. I work in retail which is as interesting as one can imagine, but it works for now while I'm still in school. When not at school or work, I enjoy playing video games, listening to music, reading, movies, podcasts or just relaxing. I grew up watching horror movies and cheesy Sci-fi films which has geared me towards science at a young age. I also have an interest in art, this semester I'm taking Cermaics which is going to be fun, as creating in actual 3D for me is very challenging than drawing or painting.
Just to give you an idea here are some of the things I've been enjoying this summer:
- Podcasts: Startalk, Science Rules! with Bill Nye, 13 Minutes to the Moon
- Tv Shows: The Office, Chernobyl, Rick and Morty
- Movies: Aliens, Shaun of the Dead, Galaxy Quest
- Games: The Witcher, Mass Effect, Dragon Age
My interest in taking this course originates from both Bill Nye's podcast, particularly the episode Your Climate Change Reality Check, and from watching the HBO series Chernobyl. The podcast touched on ways in which climate change is affecting the planet and methods that average day people could enable to potentially lessen their impact on the planet which was very interesting. The show Chernobyl really threw me for a loop, the immensity of it was just mind-blowing to me and to think that it still actively affects that area and still will for hundreds of years is just fascinating. It made me curious about sustainable energy and it impacts on our environment and just of the toil we put the planet through, some of which can be very harmful to not only the planet but the inhabitants as well. I'm hoping to learn more from this class about sustainability and potentially reversing some of the damage that we have done to the planet if such a thing is possible.
